Oliver Brandt is a writer and critic from Tasmania, Australia. They have degrees in marketing & journalism with a post-grad in communications, and a passion for quirky movies and TV series, Chinese cinema, Pokémon, and slick, stylish animation from all across the globe.
They started their career as a live audio engineer in Australia while studying at university, having engineered countless live shows at small and large venues alike.
After a brief stint recording in a studio, and composing tracks for indie video games and short films, they pivoted to writing about entertainment and video games in late 2016 when they started writing on Aussie Nintendo website Vooks. Starting as a reviewer and working their way up to deputy editor, they wrote thousands of articles, produced over 100 podcast episodes, and covered dozens of live events all across Australia.
At Vooks they were nominated for a number of coverage and critics awards, including multiple IT Journalism Awards (colloquially the Lizzies), for both individual work and outlet coverage, the Australian Game Awards, and more. They also wrote guest reviews for outlets including Maxi-Geek, appeared on a number of Australian games podcasts, and were a panelist on several PAX Australia panels.
After six years writing about Nintendo, they transitioned into writing about the wider games market and entertainment in 2022 upon joining GLHF, a content a content agency specializing in video games and entertainment coverage for media partners across the globe. They have also written for Video Games on SI, The Sun, USA Today's ForTheWin, Parade, and News.com.au.
